Mediation is a confidential process in which an impartial third person, called a mediator, works to help parties settle disputes in a non-adversarial manner.  While Courts can require cases to go to mediation, the process is usually voluntary.  If a mutually agreeable settlement cannot be reached, the parties retain their right to litigate.  It is important to know that most cases settle outside of the Courtroom, often through mediation.  Provides a longer lasting and more satisfactory result than does litigation; it is a good alternative.

At CORNELL LAW FIRM, we can guide you through the mediation process, or we can serve as the mediator to help you reach a satisfactory resolution to the issues pending before the Court.

ADVANTAGES OF MEDIATION

Mediation offers many advantages.  Throughout the process, parties are empowered to resolve their own disputes.  This allows each party to present his/her side of their issue(s), explore options and alternatives, and suggest possible solutions.

Mediation also offers the following benefits, among others:

  • Private and confidential;
  • Less costly;
  • Less stressful;
  • Occurs more quickly and on your schedule (rather than the Court’s schedule);
  • Parties are more satisfied with a mediated agreement than a Court order; and
  • Parties are more likely to follow a mediated agreement than a Court order.

We at CORNELL LAW FIRM takes pride in assisting individuals as they work to resolve their issues in a manner that is both private and empowering.  We will help you in reaching an agreement that meets your individual goals and interests.  From the moment we begin mediating your case to the drafting of your final decree, we will work with you every step of the way.
